FUNDRAISING IDEAS
Web Design that gets you donations!
How do I get my friends, families and businesses to donate to my charity? This is a question I thought I would not ever have to deal with. I figured I would go through life donating to different charities I thought were worthwhile. When my son Andrew was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes this all changed. Everyone feels awkward asking for donations because it seems that there are so many to choose from why would they choose mine. Our first year of fundraising went well with just a letter writing campaign to all of our friends and family. The next year was a little slower so I had to come up with some way to get and keep everyone interested in my charity. Imagine you are trying to sell your product to a wide audience who knows nothing about you or your product. What is the best way to do this quickly. Build a web site! Yes a web site! Believe it or not it is not as hard as you think and almost 70% of all homes have a computer with internet access. With a web site you can sell your cause with information, pictures, results and really anything you want. It adds a level of legitimacy and dedication on your part to your specific cause which equals donations. I did some research and found a very user friendly web host company that provides you with software to create a web site. This software requires no downloads or advanced web design skills. If you can use a word processing program you can make a professional web site. The web host I chose was www.1and1.com as they are very inexpensive but easy to use. I have been using them for 3 years with no complaints. I created this web site as a support for my family and decided to offer what I learned to other small businesses in return for a donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Below are a few of the web sites I helped create in return for a tax-dedcutible donation.

How can you help Andrew’s Army or your own team raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Take a look below. It is easy!
Every year our family and friends participate in JDRF’s Walk to Cure Diabetes. This two mile walk is fun and a great way for us to support Andrew and the fight to cure Juvenile Diabetes. We will be participating in our fifth walk this year and the third year as Andrew’s Army walk team. Every year or fundraising has grown. We have been recognize two years in a row as a bronze level award winner by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. We are very proud of Andrew and his walk team and we are currently looking for more members. The walk is easy and filled with thousands of people who share the same goal of curing diabees. It takes only a couple of hours on a nice fall weekend. Last year 1.4 million was raised at the Kansas City chapters Walk to Cure Diabetes. You can help us again this year by joining our walk team or by donating directly to our walk team through JDRF’s secure website. Please take a look below at some fundraising ideas we have found successful.

GARAGE SALE!
The greatest american way to make some money for a great cause. The best part is that you get rid of all that useless junk that is taking up space in your house. We have also had great success with our coworkers and friends. With just a few e-mails we were able to fill up our entire two car garage two years in a row with donated items. It is best to have the sale in the spring when everyone is ready to clean house. The best part is that the stuff we got was not junk. I have had everything from a stainless steel fridge to a antique 1920’s art deco table donated to our sale. Try to have the sale when your neighborhood has one. The traffic is great! Then after the sale you donate the money to your participating walk team to support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The whole sale is tax-deductible. You can have the sale your self or contact us to donate your items. We will sell them for you. Below are some pictures from our 2006 sale that helped us raise $1,000.

YOU WON'T BELEIVE THIS ONE! $67 RAISED FOR JDRF!!
On Saturday Sept. 9, 2006, Ali, Andrew and their friend Emily decided to make a beautiful race car out of a vacuumn box and place it on a wagon. They then placed themselves at the entrance of the cul-de-sac and thought they would sell rides in the race car/wagon for 5 cents. They then decided maybe 2 cents would be better for a round trip around the cul-de-sac. All the money made was going towards the JDRF "Walk To Cure" Well to their surprise, as well as ours, they made $67 in one afternoon for Andrew's Arm. What a great idea. It was great to see imaginative play turn into a successful day. Who would have thought. Thanks to all the neighbors who donated!
CONCESSION STANDS
If you are lucky enough to have a pro sports team in your city or close by you may be able to work one of their concession stands during a game. Most teams let volunteer groups work in the concession stand in exchange for a percentage of money. The Kansas City Royals and the Amusement Park World’s of Fun both participate in this type of program.
